Holly Calhoun – Project Coordinator

Holly serves as the national point person for the Coalition and is based in the Oakland office of the California Food and Justice Coalition. She joins the Healthy Farms, Healthy People Coalition with extensive experience leading diverse groups of stakeholders to create economic opportunities for farmers while benefiting community health. Holly began her career working in agriculture and public health as a seller for local farmers at certified farmers’ markets in Los Angeles. For the past five and a half years, she has served as Program Coordinator of the Bring the Farmer to Your School Program and Market Manager of the Echo Park Farmers’ Market for the nonprofit Sustainable Economic Enterprises of Los Angeles (SEE-LA).  In 2010, SEE-LA joined the Roots of Change California Farmers’ Market Consortium to design and implement a Healthy Incentive Program at five of its certified farmers’ markets. Holly took on the leadership role of SEE-LA’s “Market Match” program and worked to increase the use of SNAP/EBT at farmers’ markets throughout Los Angeles County. Holly’s passion and experience lie at the intersection of agriculture and public health.

Gabrielle Serra – Senior Policy Associate  

Gabrielle Serra will be based in the D.C. office of the Public Health Institute where she will dedicate half her time toward staffing and representing the Coalition at the federal level. She is a leader with extensive experience working on federal food and nutrition policy and political matters. Most recently she worked with Meridian Institute as a senior mediator on food and agriculture policy issues and as nutrition policy advisor to the Chairman of the U.S. House of Representatives Education and Labor Committee. Gabrielle also worked with the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) where she served in several roles, most notably as a special assistant and policy advisor to the Under Secretary of Food, Nutrition, and Consumer Services, and as a program analyst in the Child Nutrition Division of the USDA’s Food and Nutrition Service. Gabrielle holds an M.S. in Food Policy and Applied Nutrition from the Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy at Tufts University and a B.S. in Health Promotion and Education from Oregon State University.
